The mail manager who shot down a Russian plane.
In 1989, Serhii Chyzhykov graduated from the Poltava Anti-Aircraft Missile School. Later, he obtained another University degree and for over 20 years has made his professional career as a banking sector manager, the last four years worked for Ukrposhta.
On February 24, 2022, when Russia launched a large-scale offensive against Ukraine, Serhii decided to go to war. On March 4, he shot down a Russian military plane over Chernihiv.
“When Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine began, I thought about it until noon, and then put myself together and went to the military enlistment office. My wife is an officer, she understood my decision. (…) The army is not as scary as in civilian life now. I can’t imagine how people can constantly sit in basements hiding. When I was given a machine gun, it became easier. (…) After the plane crashed, I started receiving words of gratitude. I underestimate my strength, but at the same time I have strengthened the faith of other people”, Serhii said.
